WATSON, Elmer

Source: Indianapolis News Thursday 22 Sept 1960 p 12

Whenever Elmer Watson, 84, had what most folks would call a leisure moment, he would take a hammer and some nails and start building or repairing something. He was seldom idle. At one time his farm was rated as one of the best maintained in Putnam County. Mr. Watson died yesterday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ross Tustison, 161 Sigsbee.  A resident of Putnam County most of his life, Mr. Watson came to Indianapolis three years ago to live with his daughter. He had been a farmer all  his life and was a member of the Indianapolis Farm Bureau. If Mrs. Watson was not painting a farm building, he was repairing a fence or building a gate. Nine years ago blindness struck him, but he managed to get around and build an occasional gate and feed the chickens. He was a baseball enthusiast. Three years ago, Mr. Watson’s wife, Catherine Foscher Watson died. They had observed their golden wedding anniversary. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Perkins Funeral Home at Roachdale with burial in Brick Chapel Cemetery near Greencastle. Survivors besides the daughter are a son, Earl Watson, Greenfield, the daughter’s twin; a sister, Mattie Stevenson, Greencastle; one grandson and three great grandchildren. – kbz
